Had written my Sermon for Sunday coming out of Mark 7 and printed it out Saturday night when I went back to my most recent geek diversion which is finding the ultimate dual boot set up for Windows 7 and Ubuntu/Linux on my netbook through trial and error. These things amuse me. What can I say. Due to a tactical misstep (modifying BIOS whilst in the middle of a three kid conversation with one playing xbox for that extra bit of distraction) I effectively beheaded my netbook and I had to reinstall Windows. Well here is the thing, duting the course of the day I had read the directions from the maker, HP, that instructed me essentially that:
- This would take time, but I was not told how much.
- Let the reinstall run it’s course.
- Do not mettle.
Well several times I thought the process was either broken, corrupt, or the hardware was irreparably damaged and I, the very person to have broken it in the first place, had to intervene. Waited longer each time (half hour, hour, hour and a half, etc…), but ultimately the the process would seemingly be doing nothing or “hanging” and I would lose my patience and try to “help it out” convinced no good end would come if I left it to it’s own devices. Finally in the wee hours of Saturday night after I had had enough I decided to set it to run, leave it to be and go on to bed to get some rest.
In the morning I awoke to find that the reinstall had completed successfully with no intervention by me. So if we equate the following:
- I=I
- Netbook=Any given issue or situation
- Instructions from the netbook maker=Instructions from my maker, His Holy Word
- Reinstall=Blessing
With Sunday Services in 2 hours I wrote a new sermon:
Text Isaiah 40:21-31
Topic: “Just Wait Longer”
Key Verse:
“31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
So, in the instructions provided by my maker I have read:
- This would take time, but I was not told how much.
- Let the hand of the Lord run it’s course.
- Do not mettle.
Time and time again in life I was given this instruction with my challenges in life and I was impatient and hard headed. Several times I thought the process was either broken, my surroundings too corrupt, or the conditions in my life were irreparably damaged so I, the very person to have broken it in the first place, had to intervene. Waited longer each time (six months, a year, a year and a half, etc…), but ultimately the process would seemingly be doing nothing or “hanging” and I would lose my patience and try to “help it out” convinced no good end would come if I left it to it’s own devices. Finally in the wee hours one night after I had had enough I prayed, put in the Lord’s hands and decided to let it run it’s course, leave it be, that I was more a hindrance than help, and I would find rest in His promise.
The crux of the three points:
1. Do not sabotage your self while waiting on your blessing.
-The Lord has a blessing in the proper time. -Do not imprison yourself when your release is at hand.
2. Relax in the meantime.
-Cut yourself some slack.
3. Slow down.
-Wait on the Lord.
-God is not the author of confusion or strife.
-No good comes of a thing or action that causes strife.
Then after night had passed I would find that in the morning I awoke to find that the promise was at hand and my deliverance had come. God’s reinstall had completed successfully in my life with no intervention by me and I had been blessed mightily.
I thank God for the Long’s Memorial Church family that it was well received on Sunday morning.
God bless,
Eric
